First you ask, what is DA? DA is the so called domain authority score that moz.com gives to most websites as they age and gain followers and web traffic.  DA is used by almost all SEO experts and SEO sales people to justify their existance.  In some way, DA is used by google to sort search engine results (SER), even though they won't admit it, DA is used to elevate some sites to the top of the search results.  In google analytics GA-4, the tag manager, will track referrals and engagement time. The referrals source is the backlink.  The link title is used to build up keywords as well.  The A HREF tag on external websites that contain your backlinks has a title The words between the A are what get's used to build your keywords over time.  Having one backlink does not help. The external websites that contain your backlinks must have a high DA rating as well to really count.  The SEO salesmen and other grifters often say this:  "Hire an Expert to rank your website on Google 1st page: An SEO expert can help you improve your website's Domain Authority by identifying areas of improvement, creating a customized SEO strategy, and executing the plan to rank your website on the first page of Google. This can significantly improve your website's visibility and attract more traffic."   I will counter that by saying there are no real experts out there, when SEO is a continual game of cat and mouse with the big search engines. Lots of so called experts use black hat tricks and other shenanagans to trick google into ranking sites higher, Google counters that by changing its strategies often.  The so called experts may be able to rank your site higher, but only temporarily, and only by paying for lots of google ads, and often by faking out your traffic with bots.  If you are eating the pablum that "SEO Experts" are selling, then I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.  What do you think? What is On Page SEO?

On page refers to the practice of writing good quality HTML code right on your own site. and having all the right attributes in your page meta data data. If you write HTML by hand, it is best to use an HTML editor such as this one by CKEditor.

What is Off Page SEO?

Off Page SEO refers to the practice of building up a collection of external websites, blog stories, news stories and other material sites that contain your backlinks.  Off Page means to add links on other website's pages.  The content on your own website often does not matter as much as what other websites show.  Google and Bing place a lot of weight on what other sites say about yours.  Your basic web design package should include SEO and off-page content.

How to Check Backlinks

There are many sites out there that will give you a preview of your backlinks. DIIB.com, ubersuggest.com, moz.com, and many more can report them for you. If you register your site on bing webmaster tools, you can also check there too.  Also check your competitor's websites too.  Your google webmaster tools includes a button on the left column called Links that will show them too.

How Long Does It Take To Register Backlinks

It can take about 3 months for backlinks to appear in the reports. You can help that process by visiting your backlinks regularly in a new Chrome profile, from different locations, and clicking thru to your backlinks and engaging on your own website.  Be sure to spend at least 10 seconds on each page scrolling around.  While on those pages, use the page inspector tools to verify that the "collect" script is firing at least twice. Once at landing time, and next after about 10 seconds.  See the example:

In the example, we are visiting a backlinked page from guides.co, waiting about 10 seconds to see the second collect event. Then checking the dl and dr in the payload.  After doing so, spend some time checking the google analytics to see if the visits were registered.

Where can I get free backlinks

While you can get plenty of free backlinks, the key to success is to get backlinks with a DA of 55 or more.  Lower ranking backlinks are nice, but the high value one will raise your DA.   I will present you a list of great free sites with high DA that have follow and no-follow links.  Also review your competitor's websites own backlinks and see where they got theirs from.

Is Follow or No-Follow Better

It is better to get follow links, although some SEO experts will tell you that you need a mix of both.  A 4 to 3 mix is ideal.  

How Can I Help Move That Process Along

Visit your backlinks from other chrome, firefox and edge profiles, as different users and different profiles. Visit from other physical locations as much as possible. Go to McDonalds, Starbucks, your local airport, jump on their WIFI, then hit all the backlinks, then click thru to your own website, spend 10 seconds or more scrolling around.  Try the same on a VPN connection as well.

1) Social Book Marking Website

Share your website's stories and news.  Add links to your website's stories. This is a great link farm with the added benefit of being able to add blog stories.  A great place to share news stories with links.  This site will register as a backlink very quickly too.  DA is 27.  Once you post it, your story and your link will appear in the top of the list for a few hours.  The downside, is that the link is a bare link that will not help you rank for keywords. A great example is this one for the USA Chamber.  

2) 4Mark

Another bookmarking website. DA is 51. Same thing as the above mentioned website.  Just a list of links.  Create a user profile, then find your ID and username to form your bookmark profile that everyone can see.  Add links, associate them with categories. Once they are up, visit them click thru them and interact with your pages.  Do it from a different computer so it appears as a different user.

3) The USA Chamber of Commerce

The USA Chamber of Commerce is a business directory and an organization that will give you a free business citation. The DA is only 6. The USA Chamber of Commerce gets no love at all.  You can give it some love by linking back to it. When you join the USA chamber, you will get a free listing, a business description and an opportunity to show your logo.  You can also publish a press release with lots of links and words in their news page.  It is all free to you the business owner.   Here are some examples of business listings.  First one is the ASSE USA Exchange, and the second one is Bare Wire Networks.
